Victor B. Scheffer Foundation

The Victor B. Scheffer Foundation was established to continue the efforts of Vic Scheffer who is one of the forefathers in the area of marine research.  The mission of the foundation is to increase awareness of life in the sea - its beauty and diversity, its fundamental support of human life, and its sensitivity to human abuse, through research and education.

About Victor B. Scheffer

Vic Scheffer spent his life as a wildlife researcher specializing in marine mammals, such as seals, sea otters, whales, dolphins, walruses, manatees, and dugongs.  He spent thirty-two years as a biologist in the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and served as first chairman (1973-76) of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission.  His studies carried him to Alaska, Antarctica, the Caribbean, Japan, and Africa.  He has written several books, including The Year of the Whale, which won the Burroughs Medal in 1970, and A Voice for Wildlife, which received the Joseph Wood Krutch Award.  He is currently enjoying his retirement in Bellevue, Washington, with extended family.
